I found critical point through a family friend. Coming into it, I didn’t really know what to expect. I was a sophomore in high school, and didn’t know anything about the SAT or ACT. They first had me take a practice SAT and ACT test to find my baseline score and evaluate which test I should focus on. With the advice from Andre Kiss (Critical Point founder), I chose to study for the ACT.

I studied for a bit more than 3 months before taking the ACT test in June, and Critical Point prepared me fully for it. Every week, I came in to the office and had a 1 on 1 meeting with my teacher (first Matt Gursdorff, then Andrew Kiss). I would learn specific strategies like time management and question identification skills that really helped me pick apart the test and understand the way to most efficiently go about answering the questions. I struggled the most with the science section because of the complex passages. With Matt and Andre’s help, I increased my science score by 8 points.

My favorite part and main reason for recommending this tutor program to basically everyone (including you, the reader) is the personalization and flexibility of Critical Point. As I stated, the program is 1 on 1. Additionally, I could easily change the dates of my sessions if something came up. Because of this, I feel I got the best tutoring possible. With Critical Point’s help, my ACT score went from a 26 to a 34!

Going into SAT prep, I wasn't sure where to begin. But after being referred to Critical Point by friends and starting lessons, I really benefited from the strategies and skills my tutors taught me. Getting feedback from practice tests let me know exactly what I needed to improve on, and lessons were really engaging and helpful. Through two months of SAT prep, I learned many math and English concepts I hadn't worked on in school for a long time, learned how not to run out of time on the second modules, and learned how to feel confident while taking the test. English was my weaker subject of the two. I was taught concepts I had a poor understanding of. This boosted my test score tremendously. I can’t say enough good things about Critical Point Test Prep and what they did for my daughter.

Grace started working with them virtually while dealing with some health challenges, and they were incredibly understanding and flexible every step of the way. Even though everything was done online, the sessions felt personal, supportive, and tailored to her needs.

Our daughter had always done well in school and SATs were no different for her when it came time.  I believe she scored in the 1200-1300 range prior to Critical Point. The guidance and direction they provided with her Essays in addition to her SAT score increase was invaluable. I first heard of Critical Point from a family friend (who had massive success with her SAT score through their tutors). I began working with them at the beginning of my junior year, taking practice tests in my free time and going over my incorrect answers with my tutor while learning test taking strategies. We determined that the ACT was the best fit for me. My first ever test came back with a 29, but through weekly sessions with my tutor I began seeing immediate progress.

I took my first ACT in April and received a 33. I was pleased but decided I could keep pushing myself, especially when it came to Math. I recommitted to studying with Critical Point that June, and took another ACT in July. I ended up with a 35! I was over the moon (and fantasizing a bonfire for my many practice tests).

Without Critical Point there was no way I could have jumped those 6 points. The structure and support provided gave me the motivation to practice every week--a motivation I don't think I would have scrounged up otherwise. Thank you to Critical Point for all your help. For close to a year, I met with Andre studying for the SAT. Andre challenged me to work harder every week and to push myself to do my best whether that be on homework or practice tests. While it can be tiring, the hard work definitely pays off. In the end,  I was able to raise my score by 310 points. H When I was looking for an ACT tutor for my kids, I was most concerned with the end result.  For my 3 daughters, the end results were:
1st daughter: score 24 to 27, attended her first choice school,  Penn State
2nd daughter: score 27 to 31, attended her second choice, , University of Richmond (which lead to a master’s degree in Health Data Science at Harvard)
3rd daughter: score 27 to 33, attends her first choice, University of Michigan
Did Critical Point change their lives? Yes, it probably did.  They were very good students, but not great standardized test takers which was a frustration for them.  Critical Point helped them improve their scores and  get into schools they wanted to attend.
The tutors skillfully walk the line between assigning test prep homework  and acknowledging  that the kids already have plenty of school homework.  They do an excellent job of reducing test anxiety by making sure the students are prepared in every way.
I would highly recommend Critical Point.  Many of my friends chose not to go the test prep route and I think some of them were disappointed to see where their children were accepted.  It’s a shame that the acceptance process is so competitive, but it’s also a reality.  I think the prep helped my kids in so many ways!

I truly had an amazing experience working with critical point prep and cannot recommend them enough. I did SAT tutoring with them and they were extremely flexible with my hectic schedule due to my many practices after school. Every session left me feeling more confident and really helped me with any test anxiety that I usually struggle with. I came in getting low 1300s and left with a 1550 and could not be more thrilled with the results. Working with Andre at Critical Point Test Prep increased my math ACT scores very quickly. The process of taking practice tests with Andre while also studying formulas was very helpful for me. I worked with Andre for just over a month and my math section scores for the ACT went up 13 points to a 33. I remember one session with Andre when he made an analogy about the sport I play for a math problem that was on a practice test. Well, well, well, what a ride it has been with  Critical Point Test Prep. Never could I have imagined six months ago that I would be in the position I am today. Sitting here writing a review about the amazing experience I had with CPTP and the 140 point increase they helped me with. I began the journey with a 1410 PSAT score and after my first practice SAT I was at the same score but with their support I was able to jump to a 1550 on my first ever SAT in August! And that wasn’t even the test I had been prepping for! I prepped for the ACT and took that this past Saturday and am now just awaiting my results. I worked through the adventure with Andre Kiss, someone who I can now call a friend and a resource for life. What I believe makes Andre and CPTP as a whole so special in their tutoring is their ability to find ways to help you to understand, constantly working to try new approaches while still managing to maintain that balance between being professional while also being a friend.
